What kind of sewing patterns are these?
Lost Fabric patterns are digital garment sewing patterns, mainly focused on jackets.
They are designed to be simple in shape, practical to sew, and suitable for a wide range of fabrics —
especially quilts, blankets, and heavier textiles, but they also work with new fabric.
You receive a printable pattern, written instructions, and video tutorials to guide you through making
your garment.
Are these zero-waste patterns?
The Boxy Jacket pattern uses a minimal-waste approach.
In many ways, this is the next best thing to zero-waste – and sometimes better.
Instead of forcing the design to fit a strict zero-waste layout, the focus is on reducing waste as much
as possible without compromising the shape, fit, or design of the jacket.
This means the garment comes first, while still keeping offcuts to an absolute minimum.
Do I need to use second-hand fabric?
Not at all. The patterns are designed so they work beautifully with quilts, blankets, and reclaimed textiles – but you can use any fabric you like.
I personally love working with second-hand fabric (apart from binding and the occasional special new fabric), and most of my own garments are made from recycled materials. But these patterns are about freedom and flexibility, not rules.
Use what you have. Use what you love.
What if I don’t have “perfect” fabric?
You don’t need perfect fabric.
These patterns work well with real materials – quilts, blankets, reclaimed fabric, mixed weights, or
pieces with marks and history.
They’re designed so you can work around what you have, rather than needing large, flawless lengths
of fabric.
Do I need to be an experienced sewist?
Not at all.
I was never taught how to sew — I just wanted to, so I started.
These patterns are logical and concept-based. You may need to give yourself a little time to
understand the method, but anyone can do that if they want the outcome.
If you’re willing to go slowly, experiment, and learn as you go, these patterns are for you.
